Murat Demir: The Person Behind Utopical Dev

Hi, I'm Murat Demir. I founded Utopical Dev, and I am the one who does the work described on this site.

Utopical Dev is a sole proprietorship. The site says "we" because it speaks for the company, but when you write to us about a project, you won't reach an account manager — you'll reach me.

Since 2008

I started my first job at Koza Yazılım in 2008 and have been building software without a break ever since. I spent 16 years there as CTO, responsible for the servers, databases, Azure environments, shared libraries, release process and technical hiring. I architected field-service and asset-management applications for enterprise clients such as BP, Castrol and McDonald's, and led a four-person software team for many years.

Since 2015, in parallel, I have been the main developer in the Operations Research & Consulting team at Sabre Airline Solutions. I work in Java, Node.js, Python and R on the analytics systems airlines use for pricing, seat availability and market tracking. On Continuous Revenue Optimizer, Sabre's revenue-management analytics platform, I led the three-person Web/API sub-team for a year.

In the same team I moved six applications from an on-premise datacenter to Google Cloud. Each one started with the same question: move it as it is, or redesign it? One system I re-architected now carries on a single cloud instance the load that used to take four physical servers. I also run the team's Tableau Server estate on GCP across DEV, CERT and PROD. I have worked fully remote, with teams spread across several countries, since 2015.

Utopical Dev

I founded Utopical Dev in 2024. We work in four areas: GCP consulting, lift and shift, modernization and custom software development — the details are on our Our Services page.

I apply what I recommend to clients on my own platform. Three live sites, this one included, and a beta environment run from a single codebase, and if the tests after a deploy fail, the system rolls itself back. I wrote about how it is built in The Architecture You're Visiting, and about what it has cost over the years in GCP Cost. I also run coding agents against this infrastructure; what constrains them is permission layers and write guards, not written instructions.

You can find the current list of my Google Cloud certifications, with verification, on my Credly profile.

I could introduce myself as a software developer, an engineer or an architect, but the core of the work is always the same: understand a problem, and solve it as simply as possible.
